Eye Twitches and headaches are a common complaint for many people. Read on to know all about eye twitch causes and its remedies if you are afflicted by a twitch in eye.
Twitching Eye
A lot of people whine that their eye keeps twitching non stop now and then. Such involuntary eye twitches are known as “Myokymia” or “Blepharospasm”. The problem mostly affects your lower eyelid even though the upper lid might also get affected by these twitches. A twitching eye lid is harmless usually and disappears after some time. Though, in certain cases, they might be an indication of a critical neurological problem like Hemifacial spasm. This type of nervous twitching eye is not something very common; see that you get medical attention immediately if they appear at all.
Eye Twitch Causes
You can determine the right eye twitching remedies by finding out the actual cause of the problem. Twitching is caused by contractions in the eyelid set off by circumstances such as lack of sleep, stress, fatigue, computer and TV screens, vitamin deficiency, allergies, caffeine, certain medications and sometimes neurological disorders.
Remedies for Eye Twitch
There are diverse ways to get relief from eye twitches. One way is to use certain anti eye twitch drugs. These drugs are given to the person to provide relaxation to the eye muscles in order to stop eye twitches. The doctor may prescribe certain oral Anti-epileptic drugs and tranquilizers. In certain cases, botox may be injected into region near the eye for treating eye twitches. For eye twitches, drugs are effective remedies but only for the short term. Time and again, they fail to give relief from eye twitches for a long term. Other ways of treating eye twitches include flushing water on the eyes, using eye drops, along with warm or cold compresses.
Eye Twitching Surgery
Surgery is used as a remedy on eye twitches, only when the condition is very critical and when all the other treatment methods have failed to bring any helpful results. The surgery done to stop eye twitches is called Myectomy. This is about getting rid of certain nerves or muscles from eyelids. Myectomy is carried out via an incision made on the brow and an eyelid crease. More often than not, a lot of in-depth studies are done on the case, before the doctor actually decides on the surgery.
