Job Description
per diem As Scheduled Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse or physician, participates in the delivery of resident care within the constraints of his/her license and unit policy. The LPN supports the daily operation of the department through participation in nursing, resident and clerical support activity. Performs those technical functions requiring an advanced level of preparation and knowledge. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to acquire knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and standards to assist in the delivery of resident care. Ability to acquire knowledge of equipment to administer resident care. Ability to acquire knowledge and technical skills for specific application of technical activity in unit(s) assigned. Skill and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents, families, employees, physicians and the public. Ability to develop flexibility in applying skills to a variety of work situations. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend english. Knowledge of and ability to deal with common safety hazards and associated precautions to establish and maintain a safe work environment. Skill in using computer and telecommunications systems. Education Graduate of an approved Practical Nursing Program. Successful completion of the orientation program. Successful completion of medication and IV therapy competencies. Experience Previous acute and/or long term care experience preferred. License/Certification/Registration Possession of a current Practical Nurse license. Meets criteria to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as established by the Practical Nurse Law. CPR certified. Professional Affiliations None. Equipment Utilized Computer terminals, copiers, telecommunications equipment, stretchers, bed/tables, wheelchairs, application of monitors and other equipment, instruments and equipment applicable to Skilled Nursing, oxygen, suction and catheters. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting residents, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires ability to push, pull and lift objects. Requires corrected and color vision and hearing to within normal range. Requires working in a fast-paced environment with varying degrees of stress. Requires heavy lifting up to 100 pounds and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids. The maximum amount of force required to initiate movement of the medication cart is 15 pounds of force.
