Job Description

per diem As Scheduled Job Summary: To provide all aspects of extracorporeal cardiopulmonary support as ordered by the hospital surgical staff for patients undergoing cardiac surgery and/or patients at risk for major blood loss. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of principles, theories, and practice of extracorporeal blood circulation and related disciplines. Knowledge of sterile, surgical, and operating room technique. Knowledge of common safety hazards and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of clinical perfusion. Skill in departmental and personnel management. Skill in identifying problems and recommending and implementing solutions. Ability to work independently for extended periods of time. Ability to maintain quality standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Education: Graduate of an approved school of Cardiovascular Perfusion accredited by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Experience: Two (2) years of post schooling clinical experience preferred. License/Certification/Registration: Current certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or eligible. American Heart Association Basic Life Support. Current valid Perfusion license for the state of Pennsylvania. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye/hand coordination. Requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and to occasionally push and pull items weighing over 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal limits and range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Requires frequent exposure to blood and body fluids with possible exposure to communicable diseases. Adequate protection is available and mandated. Environment: Clinical activities usually carried out in the operating room, Intensive Care Unit, or Cardiac Cath Lab. Scheduling: Variable according to cardiothoracic and major vascular surgery schedule and ICU support requirements. Health Hazards: Frequent exposure to blood, blood products, body fluids, and possible exposure to communicable diseases. Exposure protection is available and mandated.
