Job Description
part-time (0.8 FTE - 64 hours per pay period) Evenings/Nights Job Summary The Registered Professional Nurse (RN) will utilize professional nursing theory and the nursing process to facilitate and coordinate physician referrals into Susquehanna Health. This professional will demonstrate competence in administering these responsibilities in accordance with nursing standards of care and organizational policy and procedure and age specific requirements of each individual patient. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Demonstrates skills in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to manage physician referrals. Skill in identifying problems and aberrations in patient placement will include the recommendation of appropriate solutions that are communicated clearly and professionally via verbal and written documentation. Principles of continuous quality improvement will be applied to all referral activities. Calm and effective reaction to emergency situations will include adaptation, interpretation and application of guidelines for physician referrals. Maintains professionalism in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public. Education Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing. Commitment to professional development through formal course work and continuing education credit opportunities. Experience Two years of critical care or Emergency Department experience. After successful completion of orientation, will attain competence in practice. License/Certification/Registration Current, valid Registered Nurse license. Meets criteria to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as established by the Professional Nursing Law. Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification is required. Professional Affiliations None. Equipment Utilized Computer, pagers, photocopiers, telecommunications equipment, Fax machine. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, including ability to discern color. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours. Additional hours are an essential job function for this position in order to meet the needs of our patients/department. The inability to perform additional hours could result in termination. Environment: Works within the Hospital facility. Scheduling: Hours may be irregular and includes weekdays, weekends, all shifts. Work schedule is subject to referral center needs.
